About CLOMA

CLOMA’s Vision for a Sound Material-Cycle Society

The Future Shaped by a Japanese-Style
Circular Economy Society

CLOMA envisions a Japanese-style circular economy society where finite resources circulate throughout society, supporting prosperous lives and industries for generations to come.

In this society, products are not made to be used once and thrown away. They are collected, reused, and recycled, creating new value through circulation. Companies, local governments, and consumers each play an important role, supported by systems that make resource circulation a natural part of society.

What will such a society look like, and how will it change our daily lives and industry?

Designing Circular Systems

CLOMA’s Vision for Resource Circulation

In a Japanese-style circular economy society, products are not simply thrown away after use. They are collected as resources, reused and recycled, and brought back into circulation.

Designing products with their entire lifecycle in mind is essential. This includes making products easy to collect, using recyclable materials, and creating effective systems for collection and sorting.

It is also important to combine a variety of solutions, including material recycling, chemical recycling, the use of recycled materials, and biomass-based materials, to keep finite resources circulating sustainably.

What matters is not simply having these technologies and systems in place, but connecting them into a single circular system that works across society. To show how this works, CLOMA has created a circularity diagram that illustrates its vision of a resource-circulating society.

Looking Ahead

Clean Oceans and Better Lives for All

In the Japanese-style circular economy society envisioned by CLOMA, companies provide products and services designed for circularity, municipalities support efficient collection and recovery systems, and consumers make sorting, reuse, and repair part of everyday life. With everyone playing their part, resources circulate throughout society.

At the heart of this vision are traditional Japanese values: caring for limited resources, respecting nature and the things we use, and building better lives through cooperation. Based on these values, CLOMA CITY presents a future where resource circulation becomes a natural part of daily life and industry, creating a society where clean oceans and better lives exist in harmony.
